Client Acquisition
Find the local businesses in an area with the most room to grow on Google Maps, measure each one, and track them as leads.
Type a kind of business and a city, and Client Acquisition lists the businesses Google Maps shows there, each measured on a 5×5 map of the area and ranked by Growth potential. You then track each lead from To-do to Converted.
#Before you begin
- You need at least one listing, in any of your projects. Client Acquisition spends the monthly credits of all your listings, pooled. See Pooled credits.
- Client Acquisition is at the top of the Maps menu, with or without a project picked. It shows the same leads whichever project is open, and everyone on your projects sees the same list.
- To discover, check or change leads you need the Owner or Editor role on at least one of the projects. A Viewer sees the list. See People and roles.
- If you work on projects for more than one account, pick whose leads you see from the menu at the top of the page.
#Discover potential customers
- Open Client Acquisition in the menu.
- Click Discover potential customers.
- Type the Keyword: the kind of business, as a customer would search for it, for example "Dentist".
- Choose the Country.
- Type the City, then pick the place from the list that appears. Looking up the place is free.
- Pick the Area around it: 1, 2, 5 or 10 km. This is where the leads come from, and the map their growth is measured on.
- Click Discover · 60 credits.
A dialog shows the progress. You can close it and come back; the list opens when it is ready.
#What a discovery buys
| Part | What it does | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| Business list | One Google Maps search around the place, up to 300 businesses. Each becomes a lead. | 10, however many come back |
| 5×5 grid | The same keyword searched from 25 points across the area. It measures every lead at once. | 50 |
If your listings do not have 60 credits left between them, nothing runs.
#Read the leads
Open a discovery to see its leads in a table:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Growth potential | How much visibility the business can still gain for this keyword. Higher means more room to grow. Hover it to see the visibility and area difficulty behind it. |
| Business | The name, and your comment if you added one. |
| Rating and Reviews | From Google. |
| Avg. Rank | Its average position across the grid. 20+ means it averaged below the top 20. |
| Website | A link, or — if Google lists none. |
| Status | To-do, Contacted, Converted or Ignored. |
The Growth potential badge is green from 60%, amber from 30%, and grey below that.
Click a column heading to sort by it. Use the search box to find a lead by name, and the chips to filter by status.
The icons at the end of each row:
- Details (the eye): everything DigitPeak knows about the business, including its category, whether the profile is claimed, its photo count, phone, website and address, and how it did on the grid.
- Ranking (the grid), once the lead has been measured: the lead's map, as the Rank Checker shows it. It costs nothing. Click a pin to see the businesses Google returned there, and hover the i beside a business for its figures and a Show on Google Maps link.
- Open on Google Maps.
- ⋯: Add comment (or Edit comment) and Add as a listing.
#Growth potential
100 × (1 − visibility) × (1 − area difficulty ÷ 2)
- Visibility is the lead's Business Visibility on the discovery's 5×5 grid, from 0% to 100%. A lead that is not in the top 20 at any point has a visibility of 0%.
- Area difficulty is how established the top three businesses are across the grid, judged by their reviews, from 0% to 100%.
Both are defined on Heatmap metrics. A lead that nobody sees, in an area where the leaders have few reviews, scores highest.
#Check a lead
A lead with no Growth potential figure has a Check · 50 credits button. It runs a 5×5 scan of the discovery's keyword around that business and fills in the row.
#Track a lead
- Open the Status menu on the lead's row.
- Choose To-do, Contacted, Converted or Ignored.
Every lead starts as To-do. To add a note, open ⋯ and choose Add comment. Comments are up to 1,000 characters, and only your team sees them.
A status and a comment belong to the business, not to the search that found it. The same business in another discovery shows the same status, and deleting a discovery keeps them.
#Turn a lead into a listing
When a lead becomes a client, open ⋯ on its row and choose Add as a listing. Pick the Project it goes into, then click Add listing. The project opens on its Dashboard, the business joins its listings, and the setup opens.
The dialog shows what adding it costs in that project: 9 credits for reading its profile, plus 4 for each business search made in that project since its last listing was added. They come from the new listing. The Project menu lists the projects where you are an Owner or Editor and can add a listing. See Add a listing.
#Export the leads
Click the export button at the end of the filter row and choose CSV or JSON. The file holds the leads on screen, with your filters, search and sort applied. It includes Growth potential, business, rating, reviews, website, phone, address, whether the profile is claimed, average position, how many points it showed on, status, comment and a Google Maps link.
#Manage your searches
Client Acquisition opens on one card per discovery. Each card shows the keyword, the place and the area, a status (In progress, Done, Failed or Archived), and three counts: Profiles found, Contacted and Converted. Click Open list to see its leads.
The ⋯ menu on a card holds:
- Rename: a name for the card. Leave it empty to use the keyword.
- Run again: the same keyword, place and area as a new discovery, for 60 credits. Statuses and comments stay with each business.
- Archive: moves the card under Archived. Unarchive brings it back.
- Delete: removes the discovery and its list. Statuses and comments stay with each business.
Use the search box and the All, In progress, Done and Archived chips to find a discovery.
#How credits are charged
Client Acquisition spends from the monthly credits of all your listings, in every project, together. See Pooled credits.
| Action | Credits |
|---|---|
| Discover | 60 (10 for the list, 50 for the grid) |
| Run again | 60 |
| Check a lead | 50 |
| Open a lead's map, details or export | 0 |
| Add a lead as a listing | 9, plus 4 for each search made in that project since its last add, from the new listing |
#Limits
- One scan at a time per account. This covers discoveries and Rank Checker checks together, whoever on your team starts them. A second one is refused with "A scan is already running. It finishes in a minute or two."
- The grid is always 5×5, and the area is 1, 2, 5 or 10 km.
- One keyword per discovery.
- DigitPeak keeps the 300 most recent discoveries and checks in an account. Older ones are dropped.
- Deleting a project does not delete any leads, discoveries or checks.
